Another caricature commission

Here`s another commission we had recently at Creartiv3. The client wanted quite a complex composition. Any comments/ideas/critiques?

Multi-interview

We are back! We`ve been busy with a lot of commissions and other activities, and we still have a lot cooking for this summer, but we`ve finally found the time to get this multi-interview out to you.

You may know already that we like to observe the differences between artists visions and style, therefore this interview is featuring caricature artists Luke Watson, Anton Emdin and Ed van der Linden. Big thanks to the three for being so kind as to grant us this interview.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it.

If you like this kind of interviews, let us know and we`ll keep making them.

Stay tuned!

Business Lesson 9 - web presence

Hello,

We continue the series of business lessons after a longer break over the holidays season and the first few weeks of 2012, with some advice on setting up your web presence.

Site:
- have a professional webdesigner build it
- make sure the design is simple; you don`t want to distract people from what matters - the art on your site.
- avoid Flash sites; they are too heavy - this hurts your ranking in search engines
- the site should be easy to navigate and intuitive.
- include in your website a blog, and links to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and other social media pages you have

Blog:
- if its a off site blog, make sure to have the same design
- keep it updated. Once a day would be great or at least 3 times a week
- simple design. avoid putting too many  widgets and annoying commercial ads on your blog. For links to partners and other artists, set up a section on the right hand site of your blog. I don`t advise putting partner banners/logo`s on the top of the site, unless its your main sponsor, or you have a special relationship with him
- don`t abuse tags. If you write a post on painting techniques, make sure your tags fit the post.

SEO:
- in short, SEO is done on-site and off-site.

  • On-site SEO basically means setting the right titles, headers, keywords and others things like building a sitemap.
  • Off-site SEO means building backlinks. These are links from other sites, to yours. Do not be fooled! A link exchange is not as powerful as a one-way link. Google can detect if you have a lot of link exchanges, especially if they point to sites that are not in your area of interest. For example, a link-exchange with a insurance fim, wont help you much. Other techniques include article submissions, directory subscriptions and other.

- here is a short, comprehensive guide for SEO: http://www.webconfs.com/seo-tutorial/seo-and-keywords.php

Social media:
- set up web presence on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Google Plus, etc.) and online art communities (DeviantArt, Wittygraphy, Artflakes, etc.)
- if possible, create accounts on as many social media sites and art communities as possible. It`s all advertising and it`s all free.
- link your social media pages together
- post on social media, all of your blog posts
- as always, keep it simple and clean
- keep them updated, interract with other artists and fans and keep an open mind

This pretty much sums it all up.
See you guys next time!
